As an experimental dive into media archaeology, I revived my old Sega Game Gear that I’ve kept since I was a teenager.
Repairing this hand-held device allowed me to think about retro-gaming culture, the ethics of care and disposable culture. Simultaneously, it revealed the clash of inefficient consumption (the Sega console burns through six AA batteries at a time)with modern day environmental sensibilities.
I found old games online and through retro gaming merchants in and around Montreal. As an updated touch, I doodled on the outer casing with line work inspired by the internal circuits and celestial stars.
